5. DBS Process For Welfare Officers & DBS Verifiers


Information for creating, managing and approving DBS Applications (Welfare Officers and DBS Verifiers)

1. Application Phase

- Setup as DBS verifier via Welfare Officer (EH Welfare Officer)
- ⁠Login to First Advantage Portal
- ⁠Select 'Start an Application'
- ⁠Fill in name, surname and email address (option to complete Bulk Application Wizard)
- ⁠Under 'Organisation Selection', select 'Bourne Deeping Hockey Club'
- ⁠Select 'DBS Enhanced Criminal Record Check'
- ⁠Under 'DBS Check' select role (ensure a role with Child is selected). This ensures the DBS Children’s Barred List is added to the applicaiton
- ⁠Ensure 'Next Steps 'is set to ‘The Applicant’
- ⁠Under Payments details select ‘Organisation pays by credit/debit card’ (inform Treasurer)
- ⁠Click Create Application
- ⁠Add applicants email address if not already added on first page
- ⁠Select ‘Create Application’.

2. Application Processing

- Application will be processed once payment is received
- ⁠Applicant receives and completes application selecting 3 verification documents.

3. Verifier Requirements (Welfare Officer/DBS Verfier)

- A nominated DBS Verifier must physically check ID documents as per UK Gov DBS rules
- ⁠Once ID is checked, verifier completes verification process in First Advantage Portal.

4. Application completion

- Application is processed by First Advantage (usually 4 weeks)
- ⁠England Hockey notified who will contact Welfare Officer confirming DBS check completed
