Great performance to restart the campaign.

UEA v BDHC
After a layoff of 5 weeks and a 2 hour journey across to the mustard capital of the world, there were concerns that Bourne Deeping might be a little slow out of the blocks in this contest. However nothing could be further from the truth. The Dragons exploded out of the blocks, winning the ball early, high up the pitch and working positive triangles in dangerous areas. Andrew Kind went close with a reverse stick shot from a tight angle, Neil Baldwin stormed his way through the D only to be fouled in the act of shooting as BDHC earned a number of early penalty corners they were unable to convert.
UEA took the lead rather against the run of play with a well struck short corner. A 2nd short corner excellently deflected in from just outside the right hand post and another deflected effort coming from open play was a reminder of the importance of well executed set plays in this division as D to D the game was evenly matched.
A customary early second half wobble saw the Dragons struggle to get back into the rhythm of the game and they were guilty of giving the ball away cheaply in a poor opening 10 minutes in which they conceded twice. One a well taken strike from a tight angle after the initial shot rebounded wide; the 2nd a cruel series of events on the Dragons defence as first the ball deflected from Matthews up into the face cage of his own keeper Portlock, who then managed to knock the ball over the line with his stick whilst falling backwards!
Five goals conceded sounds like a very one sided affair, yet as they regained their composure the game was back on an even keel and both teams created chances. Tom Everton was put through on goal but fluffed his lines with only the ‘keeper to beat and Ben Brittain led the UEA defenders a merry dance but just could not find space to pull the trigger. Even defender Joe Garner came within a whisker of opening his account for the season, just unable to get a touch on the ball as it ran harmlessly past the post.
Young Edward Moisey again impressed with his coolness under pressure in both midfield and defence, while Andy Briault again showed how much the Dragons have missed his reliable presence at the back this season.
Bourne Deeping will ask for more of the same from their 1st XI when they come up against Wisbech next week at home, looking to continue the improvement they have shown week to week this season.
MOTM -tied : Ben Brittain, not just showing his fancy stick skills, but putting in a huge shift physically to help out in defence as well as attack.
Andy Briault, The Dragons own Mr Reliable
Tom Everton – aggression and bite in midfield and attack, always willing to put a stick in!
