Winning the toss and choosing the end with the sun & wind behind, The Dragons started the game with the intent of going out for the win. Great possession work in midfield and the visitors pressing all the way up the pitch it wasn’t long until the first chances came the Dragons way. Nick Glover bagged the first goal for the Dragons after a surging run from Mark Cox found Ben Slack who ripped through the Ely backline to set Nick up. 0-1. The chances kept coming for the Dragons with penalty corners working well this week. The visitors had a goal disallowed when a shot from Andy Kind found the foot of Ben Slack on the line to deny him and later the ball crossed over the line again but was again disallowed. A quiet half for the BDHC defence saw the half finish with the Dragons holding the advantage.

The second half started with the Dragons into wind but this wasn’t enough to stop the attacking prowess of the visiting side. It wasn’t long into the half when the Dragons extended their advantage when Nick Glover bagged his second of the afternoon by a slick passing move through Richard Collins. 0-2. Soon after the Dragons were three to the good when a well injected short corner was despatched directly into the goal by a well placed flick from Richard Collins. 0-3. Ely managed to claw one back soon afterwards when their captain was allowed to drive into the D unchallenged and fire the ball into the far bottom corner. 1-3. This was a wake up call for the visiting side who had dominated for the majority of the game and did not want to let the home side back into it. With the whole team holding possession well Ely couldn’t see any of the ball and when Ben Slack found Matt Clarkson in the D, Matt put the Dragons 4 ahead with a well placed shot. 1-4. Continuing the onslaught the midfield continued to rip into the Ely defence and when Harry Oakley found Ben Slack for his 12th goal of the season the afternoon’s work was pretty much completed. 1-5. The dragons nearly had a 6th goal when Nick Glover found himself with plenty of time in the D with only the keeper to beat, even though he was on a hat-trick Nick unselfishly squared to Ben Slack who had an open goal to put the ball into but managed to miss the target agonising wide and miss out on his 2nd for the day. The final whistle blew and Ely were put out of their misery for another week.
