Starting the game well the Dragons were straight of out the blocks with the midfield enjoying plenty of possession. A slight change in formation allowed Ben Slack more freedom to create things and the IES defence also allowed him to do so. Having a volley of short corners but unable to find the goal coupled with the IES keeper making some fine stops the Dragons were finding it difficult to score. At the other end the defence worked tirelessly to give the Dragon keeper very little to do. The home side had the majority of possession but with no score leading into half time Bourne Deeping were looking favourable for the points.
Half Time: Bourne Deeping HC Men 1st XI 0 – 0 Ipswich East Suffolk HC Men 1
The second half started the way the first ended with all of the possession belonging to Bourne Deeping. It was starting to become more apparent through the game that IES had come for the draw and parked the bus in their 23. Even with the advantage of an extra man after an IES player was sent off Bourne Deeping still couldn’t find the breakthrough they desired with Nick Glover coming agonising close to scoring with a diving deflection effort that narrowly missed the end of his stick. The game continued with all of the possession going Bourne Deeping’s way who were still unable to find a way past a defiant IES keeper. As the final whistle blew Bourne Deeping felt that they deserved all of the points but it was the IES keeper that deserved the draw for the visiting side.
Final score: Bourne Deeping HC Men’s 1st XI 0 – Ipswich East Suffolk HC Men 1
The silver wand for Man of the Match this week was awarded to Ben Slack after having a very industrious game being the midfield general.
Next weekend the dragons travel to league strugglers Ely City who have only managed a single point so far during this campaign.
