Bourne Deeping 1 - 3 Crostyx

Bourne Deeping Men’s 1s went into Saturdays league game bottom of the league despite some encouraging performances. Early indications in the league table showed they have had a difficult run though, having played 3 of the top 5 already, with Crostyx another of the big 4.

The first exchanges were tight with the returning Ryan Mathews proving his ability at right back to relive the pressure when BDHC were under the cosh. The pressure from the opponents finally told when Andy Briault was narrowly beaten to the ball, giving the opposing striker time to round Ady Portlock and finish. 0-1.

This sparked the 1’s into action with Chris Burden and Andy Kind linking up well to try and break the midfield line. One of these runs found Sam Evison, on debut for the 1s, who quickly shifted the ball from under his feet and released a fierce shot into the bottom corner. 1-1.

Scores remained level until half time despite both sides having periods of the half whilst down to 10 men, Scott Downie (green) and Roddy Mountain (Yellow) the culprits. The 1’s half time talk emphasised the need to be patient as the chances will come.

The second half was again a disjointed affair with both teams having chances but both keepers and defences stood strong. Captain Bob Slack took one for the team; dislocating his thumb making a crucial tackle on the edge of his own D. His loss from the game was a crucial, but this didn’t deter BDHC from trying to get the win. Their chances looked to improve when an opposition player received a second yellow for the same stick tackling offence. However, a five minute lapse in concentration allowed Crostyx to score twice and then shut up shop for the remaining 5 minutes.

A frustrating day at the office for the Dragons, but performances are improving weekly and hopefully availability will remain strong for the trip to fellow strugglers Bury St Edmonds 1st team.
