On a hockey pitch, far far away, BDHC 1s went head to head against Brentwood 1s, the long drive and a relatively short warm up on pitch didn’t help Bourne Deeping get off to the best of starts with Brentwood’s strong early attacking intent resulting in an own goal as Andrew Kind could only bat the ball into his own net attempting to clear a shot that had ricocheted up off keeper Portlock. Brentwood where playing a high pressing game which resulted in several turn overs which lead to a short corner in which it hit Graham Brewer's foot on the line. The umpires blew for a penalty flick, this was converted into a goal despite Portlock's diving attempt. Brentwood's next goal was from another decent short corner in which it went in between left post man and goalkeeper. Half time and 3-0 down the Dragons regrouped and were ready to battle again. Sadly they conceded a 4th when another short corner, well saved by Portlock, hit Brewer’s arm and rebounded to their player who hit the ball in after the whistle. The umpires conferred and allowed it. After that BDHC started playing better as a team and began to create pressure of their own, this lead to multiple short corners with one being converted successfully by Ben Brittain, who listened to his own keeper's advice, and dragged the ball low and slow into the right hand corner, completely bamboozling the opposition goalie! After that BDHC applied more pressure, inspired by the running of Andrew Kind and Charlie Riddington. Sadly this didn’t result in any further goals for Bourne Deeping and Brentwood, ever dangerous on the counter attack, scored another goal to make it 5-1. Young players Roddy mountain and Charlie Riddington worked hard and played well throughout the game preventing many goals and creating chances whenever they could.
