Another tough day at the office awaited Bourne Deeping 1st XI when they travelled to local rivals Spalding for the last league fixture before the Christmas break. With a healthy matchday squad of 13, hopes were high and the game started evenly. Bourne controlled the ball well around the back but lacked a cutting edge in the opposition half.
Sadly, Spalding lacked no such edge and found themselves two goals up midway through the half thanks to two slightly fortuitous but well taken deflected goals. The deficit was increased to three before half-time despite more promising Dragons play.
The second half brought more pain as Spalding dominated the game and added three more goals to their tally as the Dragons felt the pressure and just could not hold onto the ball at key moments.
Yet another disappointing performance and defeat leaves Bourne Deeping with much to do after a much-needed Christmas break. A rested and refreshed side must hit the ground running in January in order to climb the league table.
