Dragons vs Waltham Forest

Bourne Deeping battled hard on Saturday to secure their first home victory of the season and record back-to-back wins for the first time.
Knowing that a win would take them above opponents Waltham Forest in the table, Bourne Deeping began the game confidently and were encouraged by the joy they got from their full press. The away side struggled to play their way out from the back and resorted frequently to long balls and hopeful smashes up field.
Despite their dominance in the first half, led by the returning Andrew Fletcher, the Dragons could not find the breakthrough and had even contrived to have two men shown green cards.
The second half had to start in the same vein but simply did not. After five minutes of slightly sloppy Dragons play, Waltham Forest were awarded a questionable penalty stroke when breaking on the counter-attack. Stand-in goalkeeper Joe Wray, while solid and calm throughout the game, could do nothing to prevent the away side from taking the lead from the spot.
The apparent injustice - and the lack of cards shown to Forest despite several agricultural tackles - galvanised the home side and it did not take long for them to bring the scores level with what must be their goal of the season so far. Richard Collins fired a pass down the right hand touchline to Joe Youngs who exchanged quick passes with James Tavernor before driving towards the D and rolling the ball in to space for Simon Shorter to arrive and slap high and hard into the net.
Energised by the quality of the goal, the home side pegged Forest back and the away side could not find a way out of the pressure. Finally, with time running out, Andrew Fletcher dinked the ball over an onrushing keeper to secure the win and his nomination as man of the match.
A huge win for the Dragons lifts them two places in the table having beaten two fellow strugglers in consecutive games.
