BDHC v Cambs South
The Dragons travelled to Cambridge hoping to end the season on a high in a fixture which in recent times has always produced a close match.
With both teams playing for pride rather than league placing, the match started off at a relatively slow pace with a sticky pitch causing some pedestrian passing and ironically more than one player to slip and loose their footing.
Alex Hutton managed to gain some much needed traction as he hot wheeled his way around the Cambridge back line, cutting the ball back perfectly for Ben Brittain to open the scoring with a back post tap in, and it looked like the Dragons were starting to move through the gears.
Cambs hit back with a reverse stick effort from a wide angle which snuck into the bottom corner, but the Dragons retook the lead with a penalty corner from Chris Burden which was too hot for the Cambs ‘keeper to handle.
Cambs are always well drilled on penalty corners themselves however, and levelled it up at 2-2 before half time.
Penalty corners were to prove costly as the Dragons conceded twice in the 2nd half, both efforts taking deflections off goalkeeper and defender in their way into the goal, whilst at the other end the Dragons could not get past an inspired Cambs goalkeeper who made 2 or 3 superb saves to keep his team in the lead.
Not the ideal end to a season, but the Dragons will still look back on this season in a positive light. Plenty of exciting games, lots of goals, and some brilliant individual and team performances with the promise of more to come next year.
