As is their way, the Dragons roared into life after a prolonged Christmas break, taking a 1-0 lead after just 5 minutes through Alex Hutton reacting quickest at the penalty corner breakdown.
Passing was crisp, movement good, but then it seemed the festive mince pies started to sit a bit heavy in the legs and it was quicksand time again. Cambs equalised with a penalty corner of their own, and a 1-1 halftime score was not the end of the world for either side. For their part, the Dragons were confident they could raise their game in the second half; Cambs were swarming the ball carrier, committing 2, 3 and sometimes 4 players to winning the ball quickly, but as the game wore on, the Dragons were confident this tactic would see them tire and gaps would open up to be exploited.
However, sometimes it's just not your day. The Dragons enjoyed the majority of the possession, and even took the lead through a Joseph Moisey penalty stroke, but never looked in total control, while an inspired Cambs 'keeper made a string of spectacular saves to keep his team in the game. Then with just 3 minutes remaining, Cambs struck with the only open play goal of the game to level things up at 2-2. A frantic final 3 minutes ensued, but the Cambs 'keeper continued his heroics to crush any dreams of a last minute winner.
A frustrating result but one to learn from as they go into an important period of the season with the next 3 games going a long way to see where this team will ultimately finish in the table.
