A seven goal thriller over at Ely this week for the men's first team as they cruised into a 3 goal lead at halftime only for Ely to mount a tremendous second half comeback which left the Dragons clinging on for a vital 3 points.
The Dragons controlled the first half from minute one and we're soon 1-0 up through an Angus Macbeth penalty corner. A second short corner brought a second goal courtesy of Ewan Howitt, and when Alex Hutton latched onto a bobbly ball in the D, a difficult finish was made to look easy and the Dragons were 3-0 up and sitting pretty.
Cue a second half wobble as a scrappy short corner brought Ely back into the game. Joe Allen then scored to restore a 3 goal lead before things started to get really interesting. Another Ely short corner made it 4-2..... A third short then made it 4-3 and suddenly Ely were the team in control. Five minutes to go and a Ewan Howitt green card saw the Dragons defending for their lives with ten men as Ely pulled their keeper to make it 9 v 11 outfield players, but crucial interventions from centre back Macbeth saw the Dragons run the clock down for a hard fought win.
