For Wisbech, a convincing win to underline their credentials as early contenders for promotion back to Div1 at the first time of asking. For the Dragons, one of those games to try and just put behind you and focus on the next one.
The Dragons started well and could easily have taken the lead, but it was Wisbech who opened the scoring through a penalty corner on what was possibly their first venture into the Dragons D. Bourne Deeping drew level through Thomas Fowkes, his 2nd in 2 games before a bobbling ball in the D was tapped home for a 2-1 Wisbech lead. Joseph Moisey continued his record of scoring in every game this season to get the home side back on terms, but Wisbech scored again to take a 3-2 lead into the break.
Disappointed but not downhearted, the Dragons were confident the 12 men of Wisbech would tire in the second half, but it seems the opposite was true, extending their lead to 4-2 and though James Watkins gave Bourne Deeping hope with a neat finish for 4-3, Wisbech just stepped up a gear. Stronger, quicker, more organised, they scored a further 3 goals, the last of which in the dying moments a truly wonderful counter attack which split the Dragons defence and was finished off with a superb diving finish from the forward.
Sometimes the opposition are just better than you. We'll played Wisbech.
MOTM: Thomas Fowkes. Energetic and intelligent running capped with a fine goal.
