Moisey hat trick sees Dragons up to 3rd in table.
A minutes silence in memory of a Long Sutton family member who recently passed away was marked before the start of this hard fought game as both sides set about their task with high intensity from minute 1.
Long Sutton were rampant in the opening 5 minutes and it was all the Dragons could do just to hold them at bay.
It was quick thinking by Hugo Brill which caught the home side out, a quickly taken aerial from the sideline midway inside the Long Sutton half, dropped invitingly on the edge of the D; Joseph Moisey steaming in from the right managed to beat the keeper to the ball and finish with an audacious first time lob over the onrushing goalie.
Long Sutton responded with renewed intent and were only repelled by more last ditch tackles and blocks.
Moisey then struck again. Once more it was Brill looking to be positive, counter attacking at pace, his pass across the keeper tapped in by Moisey stretching at the back post.
At half time the Dragons knew that resilience would be key, and so it proved to be. Long Sutton once again came out the traps flying, and almost caught the defence napping as they looked to cut the deficit. With the Dragons reduced to the odd counter attacking opportunity and under immense pressure, Long Sutton finally got the breakthrough their play deserved; an aerial ball caused all kinds of mayhem in the Dragons back line, leaving a 2v1 against goal keeper Portlock, the ball smashed home despite the best efforts of a midfielder on the line.
If the game could get any more frantic, it suddenly did. Long Sutton pushed forward in search of the equaliser, but the teenage Dragon contingent have a different mind set this season and fought tooth and nail, often in unfamiliar positions as they harried and hassled the Sutton players, forcing them to hurry passes and fight for every ball.
A 3rd goal, Moisey completing his hat trick following up his own rebound with just 15 minutes to go, gave the Dragons the cushion they craved, but no respite from an insistent Sutton team.
All hands to the pump, backs to the wall, whatever you want to call it, it was gritty not pretty, but the Dragons managed to repel a late flurry of penalty corners to see the game out 3-1 winners.
