A post match debrief which saw some honest opinions voiced about what the Dragons need to do to avoid a repeat of this kind of performance, means hopefully they can set things right at training and move past what was quite simply a bad day at the office.
Neither side covered themselves in glory, particularly in the first half, though Long Sutton were worth the 3 points as they had a game plan which they stuck to resolutely and executed in the key moments. The aerial threat which the Dragons have coped with well all season seemed to bamboozle them this week, giving Long Sutton an easy outlet and a real attacking threat with the ball being launched from all areas of the pitch.
Sutton were a constant danger with Josh Fyson often the lone target man up front but still able to find space in the D to get shots away. his clever movement broke the deadlock midway through the second half as he ghosted into the D unmarked to squeeze a reverse stick shot past the 'keeper and 2 defenders.
The second goal effectively killed the game with still 10 minutes to go, a controversial penalty flick (aren't they all?) when a Long Sutton player went down in a coming together of bodies chasing a loose ball in the D.
Cue Fyson again the figurehead, coolly placing the ball past Portlock from the spot who had up until then kept his side in the game with a string of outrageous reaction saves.
The Dragons huffed and puffed but the response lacked guile, and more worryingly, belief. Having come back from 3-1 to win last week, that belief was strangely lacking. They reset and will look for a response next week away at Cambridge.
