Bourne Deeping HC Triangular series with Market Harboro HC and South Notts HC.

After a very short break the Dragons’ next game started against Market Harboro HC. Again the visiting side started brightly, but with a lack of substitutes and a lot of effort expelled in the first game, it was hard for the side to keep up the fine form they had displayed in the previous game. After some fine attacking work and yet more positive possession, tired legs and aching muscles led to a minor defensive error, saw a Harboro forward find his way into the D. With a sliding keeper the attacking player somehow managed to bobble the ball over the Bourne Deeping stopper and the ball agonisingly crossed over the line with both goal keeper and defenders scrabbling back to try and prevent the ball crossing. Shortly afterwards and after a series of penalty corners against the Dragons, a well worked corner was deflected into the Bourne Deeping goal to take the match to 2-0. With the team wanting half time to approach so they could enjoy a well deserved rest, another wave of attacks came against the Dragons defence and after a small game of pin ball in the D the ball once again found itself nesting in the back of Page’s goal. Half time score BDHC 0 – MHHC 3.
The second half started and within minutes Chris Clarkson had found his dancing shoes, skipping past several Market Harboro defenders to fire in a well taken strike to lower the deficit to two. Unfortunately this was not the start of a great comeback from the Dragons although the team did their utmost to try to win the game. Luck was on the dragons’ side as to not concede any more goals with the Harboro forwards missing a couple of open goals and hitting the post. The final whistle finally blew much to the delight of some very tired Bourne Deeping players and the match ended 3-1 to the home side.
