Ladies 2’s match away to Spalding was a match of two halves. Spalding came out fast with quick slick passing through the mid, a well drilled team, who put 3 early goals in the Bourne net.. The Dragons never gave up and there were some excellent distribution from Sue Oakley to the mid of Lara Shell, Georgie Gray, Jenny Collins and Emma Cowell. This could not be converted out to our wide players Daisy Hakim and Millie Durrants . The defence of Dawn McShane, Isia Jasinska, Kay Greenaway and Izzy Bowzer were unable to clear to the their wide players when passing round the back, the ball pace just not quick enough enabling Spalding to make easy interceptions and runs on goal. Spalding scored another 5 during the first half. After a rousing half time team talk the Dragons came out with a different mind set. An early attack from Spalding saw the Dragons Goal keeper Lizzie Hoile clear her line with a powerful kick over the 23rd line finding Jenny Collins. Good link up play with Shell, Gray and Oakley found Daisy Hakim wide on the left who drove into the Spalding D passing to Kirsty Martin who found a Spalding foot. The Dragons first Short corner. Unable to convert this did not deter the Dragons. They were on the front foot. The whole team pushed up from defence keeping their shape allowing play to flow . Simple hockey the Dragons were able to penetrate the Spalding D with shots on goal from Kirsty Martin and Georgie Gray. The Dragons defence redeemed themselves in the second half with continuous running back when Spalding gained possession and a triple save from goalkeeper Hoile and a goal line clearance from Izzy Bowzer meant the score line remained the same. Tiredness set in and 2 late goals from Spalding before the full time whistle making the final score 10 nil to Spalding.
