With the 5th lying towards the bottom of the table, this game against a team third in the league was approached with some trepidation. They did not show this once they started however and in fact were dominant for the first 20 minutes and had a number of half chances that could easily have lead to goals. Sadly there were unable to convert and this ended as another draw.
Once again forced changes in the line-up could have caused problems for the Dragons but a majestic performance by Stewart Dacre helped to settle the team. Intermittent attacking play from veterans Steve Waters and Dave Sarsby helped to keep the pressure during a windy day on St Ives.
The Dragons moved the ball better this week and continued to harry St Ives, meaning their opposition were unable to make structured attacks. In fact both teams were evenly matched and due to pressure were prevented from playing free-flowing play, both attacks relying on scraps.
The second half seemed to give St Ives more confidence and put the Dragons under some sustained pressure but solid defending never really gave St Ives the chance to take any decent shots. Meanwhile, attacking down both wings by the Dragons through determined play by James Gray and Kevin Baker kept St Ives hesitant to over commit.
A later flurry by Will Portlock in the dying seconds, once again showing his developing class, almost stole the game when a one on one with the keeper came very close, however there was a degree of relieve all round when the final whistle went for a 0-0 draw.
