Dragons Debut from Portlock

A match against the team top of the table gave considerable anxiety for the 5ths and although they lost 4-1 this was a much more even game than their previous encounter. A game that was very much decided by a slick short corner routine resulting in a goal in each half for Nomads.
The Dragons started with vigour and new player Euan Johnson quickly settled in, a very welcome addition. This was very much a consolidation game for their youngsters, many of whom were playing in new positions which they adapted to exceptionally well.
Charlie Butler had his best game of the season showing real resolve especially when slipping into a new position in defence. James Gray similarly played strongly, adapting well to defence with Lewis Gray again very unlucky not to score.
Nomads first goal was rather against the run of play and did not deter The Dragons who continued to push forward and despite further goals for the visitors, they pulled one back through a well worked routine with Dave Sarsby slotting home from short range.
Will Portlock made an impressive debut too, demonstrating the strength of The Dragon’s youth. Like others he showed dogged determination in limiting opposition chances whilst looking to utilise chances.
With 3- 1 at half time, a further well worked short corner gave the Nomads their final goal but once again it could have been more where it not for another fine performance by keeper Joe Ashby.
