A slightly weakened 5th team started strongly at St Neots winning a series of short corners in the first 10 minutes but sadly were unable to capitalise. This was perhaps their best spell and although there was no score for the game at half time, they went on to lose 3-0.
The Dragons were on the defensive for most of the game and were it not for once again an outstanding performance by keeper Joe Ashby with strong support from defender Mark Lovejoy, the result would have been much worse.
Pinned into their own half for much of the game, The Dragons were eventually broken down early in the second half. A very unlucky second goal followed shortly after when a series of poor clearances was only converted after a deflection from a Bourne Deeping heel.
A lack of experience and player numbers supporting up front proved a difficulty but Charlie Butler proved his effectiveness on many occasions and Lewis Gray was very unlucky when a shot went just wide in the second half.
With no subs, this proved a tough game against a talented St Neots’ team, who from this experience at least should have a higher position in the league. It was perhaps therefore a little disheartening but not surprising when they added a third in the last minute.
