A clean sheet and a fine performance

Cambridge may not have the dreaming spires of its rival but the fifth team certainly found something inspiring there. A quick goal in the first two minutes was indicative of a match that The Dragons dominated going on to win 6-0.

Once again the younger players of the squad seem to improve every week, with Charlie Butler opening his season tally but there were also strong performances from Lewis and James Gray. Even stalwarts Jeremy “Jabber” Phipps and Steve Knipe seemed to up their game.

This was very much a strong team performance with unselfish, quick passing play leaving Cambridge South struggling, there were long periods of the game when the ball never left their half. The spread of the scorers reflected this overall performance with Richard Gray, Elliot Bates, Will Taylor and Ed Sarsby also scoring.

There were very welcome returns for Will Taylor and Dan Burge both of whom put in strong combative performances, outfoxing their opponents. A number of minor injuries meant rest time for differing players but the confidence and flexibility of The Dragons meant this was seamless.

Improvements need to be made in more accurate passing and shooting and a degree of overconfidence in the last few minutes gave some chances to the Cambridge South forwards. Fine saves by keeper Joe Ashby however meant he kept a well deserved clean sheet.
