BD had the better of the early exchanges with pace upfront causing the Peterborough defence problems and forcing a number of errors.
Unfortunately this apparent upper hand proved to much temptation for some and an over- commitment from midfield allowed the CoP stronger midfield to exploit the gaps.
This caused BD to start going for the long ball bypassing the largely vacant midfield, if the ball reached the forwards there was only ever one direction, goal-wards, creating an even greater gap in the middle when the ball was lost
The defensive line up of Steph Knipe, Jabber Phipps, Joe Gresty and Simon Wilmot (a formidable foursome) fought hard but were overrun and despite valiant goal keeping by Lee Langley 3 goals in relatively short order secure the game for the opposition.
All credit to BD who got themselves together after half time and continued to battle and showed some very skilful touched.
Joe Gresty was outstanding in defence and combined with the tenacious George Crosby to produce some excellent play down the left flank.
Hotch in the middle still carrying an injury from the previous week, tried to create the play and when he had the ball made sound passes, unfortunately he saw far to little of it. James Gray worked hard covering a lot of ground up and down the pitch.
On the right Jabba’s elastic reach saw several decisive ball wins, and some good sorties down the right. Charlie Butler and Kristian Rushworth both showed individual skills and pace often getting the better of the opposition and creating some good opportunities in the circle, Charlie was unlucky not to get a consolation goal when his shot went between the keepers pads but was just knocked wide by the back of the kicker.
Richard Gray showed touches of deft stickwork going forward on several solo runs, but unfortunately was not able to convert in the circle.
Lewis Grey made a creditable first League Hockey appearance and showed some good touches on the right wing.
The second half ended 0-0. A creditable fighting second half which with a little luck could have seen a couple of goals pulled back. The younger members of the team all show touches of real talent, just need to gain experience and understanding that there are sometimes more options than forward.
The 5ths played well but a 10min lapse in concentration saw them lose a game that was within their capabilities to win.
