On the back of two straight wins Bourne Deeping 4’s were keen to end the pre Christmas part of the season in good spirits and more points against a high flying St Neots side. After a slow start where St Neots took the lead and controlled the game, Bourne Deeping stepped up, pressed harder and began to assert some pressure of their own. Chorlton and Oakley harassed the St Neots defensive players, cutting down their options and forcing errors. Short corners were won and other chances created, but unfortunately not taken. At one nil down at half time a sprightly start to the second half was required.
That is exactly what happened, but it was St Neots that took the initiative, capitalising on a Bourne Deeping error leaving Lee Langley in goal with no chance. Despite strong efforts from Foston, Watts and Curtis across the pitch, momentum could not be gathered and it was all too comfortable for St Neots. A day where very little gelled, short corners were saved, unknowingly off the line and huff and puff counted for nothing, Bourne Deeping 4’s head into the break mid table and looking for a strong start to new year.
