Bourne Deeping Mens 4’s got the better of a sizeable Cambs South 4’s squad in awful weather conditions to chalk up three wins on the spin. Having moved into mid table offers some comfort ahead of an away trip to promotion candidates March.
Bourne Deeping themselves started with a healthy sized squad, but three injuries early on soon left them with more spectators than planned and no room for further mishap. Fortunately the team battled well and the half time scoreless position reflected the competitive nature of the game and a poor conversation rate from short corners from Bourne Deeping. The back line, skilfully led by Paul Curtis looked miserly for most of the match, certainly as time went on and only leaked a consolation goal, late on. The preceding 25 minutes saw Bourne Deeping in control with Jon Oakley and Kev Baker in the middle pulling the strings creating a number of changes, which saw no less than three goal line clearances from the same Cambs South defender. Two goals did come though and that was enough through a delicate touch from debutant Paul Blackler after a powerful ball in and an Eliot Bates drag flick from a short corner.
