With a bare 11, 2 of whom were carrying injuries it was always going to be a hard task for the Bourne Deeping 4th team to come away with some points from Kettering. Even more so when due to a lightening turn of pace, Paul Curtis pulled a hamstring, on 20 minutes leaving a long period to be combatted with 9 1/2 men.
As it happens due to some pressure and good fortune Kettering were already 3-0 up at that time and whilst they deserved a lead, this was generous. The long period that followed galvanised Bourne Deeping and ended with no further goals being conceded. Kettering had the majority of possession as expected in the scenario but the away team did counter attack largely through play set up by Jon Oakley. The Kettering side did win 2 penalty strokes in the second half, both of which were expertly saved by Ollie Wright on debut for the team. A tough late away trip leaving Bourne Deeping 4th’s in the relegation zone.
A competitive fixture against Camb City 6’s is line for the coming weekend.
