In what is often an abrasive affair, this match wasn’t, but the game was still very competitive throughout culminating in Wisbech winning each half 1-0. Wisbech were good for their two goals, despite only a couple of shots in open play all game after Baker, Jackson, Matthews and Watts at the back defended stoutly. They did win several short corners though, which disappointingly they scored from straight strikes.
The Bourne Deeping midfield worked hard and whilst they had more attempts in open play than the opposition, short corner attempts were at a premium. Curtis did find the back of the net from one of them, but correctly it was disallowed. The regular Bourne Deeping umpires having another good game. Regardless of the efforts put in by the likes of Kiesel, Armitage and Allen, industrious as they were, Bourne Deeping just missed the cutting edge on the day and to be ‘nilled’ didn’t reflect the match on the whole.
