The final preseason friendly saw a real mixture of youth and experience play on a hot afternoon. BDHC started poorly, too many passes were mishit or misdirected putting more pressure on themselves.
It was perhaps against the run of play when Andrew Vartan scored midway through the first half to put the fourths one up. BDHC were too often reliant during the game on the expertise of Joe Ashby in goal to keep them in the game.
In the second half, good central and forward play from youngsters Aaron Waters and Charlie Butler kept the pressure up on the opposition but a poorly defended penalty corner allowed Horncastle to equalise.
Strong encouragement from the evergreen majestic Steve Knipe found success with a further goal from Vartan and another from Richard Gray against a single well taken goal for Horncastle.
The heat caused a paucity of play amongst many on the BDHC side but skilful moves from Edward Moisey in midfield kept Horncastle on the back foot, deservedly earning him man of the match and overall a close victory for the 4ths.
